Michael copyright 2013 by Vivian Cheung
This year I was able to spend my Thanksgiving week in Punta Gorda, Belize. There, I met twenty-eight of the most beautiful children ages 2 – 16. Most of them are called Walk-Abouts because they have no supervision at home. Our team of twelve were able to spend time with them, love them, and provide some children’s ministry. This portrait is of Michael, one of the quiet ones who love drumming and have the most beautiful eyes.
I was also able to do some quick three minute portraits for the kids to keep.

A new flyer for our band Homespun Royale. Since summer is over and fall is arriving, I wanted to convey that seasonal change. The lamp is a homage to the Narnia-like atmosphere of our September venue (they actually have a lamppost in their backyard).
Awesome graphic design courtesy of the always creative and surprising Nathan Baird.

Emily copyright 2013 by Vivian Cheung
It’s been awhile since I have filled my sketchbook; I guess I was tired of the format and paper weight. But now, I am inspired to paint in it again. So Emily is a girl from my imagination whose favorite toys are her horse Freckles, her jacks, and her wooden soldier skittles set. (Skittles is an indoor bowling game). she’s very happy because she made herself a paper crown and will be having cake and ice cream for her 6th birthday tomorrow.

This is a portrait of my then 4-year-old niece Abigail; it still is one of my favorite paintings. Over the weekend, it was shown at the Spring Art Show sponsored by the Livermore Art Association.
Song of the Sea copyright 2013 by Vivian Cheung
When I think of summer, images of the ocean comes to mind. The ocean is a source of music which is incomparable to anything else in life. I also came across J.R.R. Tolkien’s lyrics to “Legolas’s Song of the Sea”. Not only are the words beautiful, but Yolanda Mott, an accomplished cellist, vocalist, and guitar player, composed a breath-taking melody to accompany them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZ2nrsOhpxc.
May you enjoy the illustration, the song, and memories you might have of the sea.
To the Sea, to the Sea! The white gulls are crying,
The wind is blowing, and the white foam is flying.
West, west away, the round sun is falling.
Grey ship, grey ship, do you hear them calling,
The voices of my people that have gone before me?
I will leave, I will leave the woods that bore me;
For our days are ending and our years failing.
I will pass the wide waters lonely sailing.
Long are the waves on the Last Shore falling,
Sweet are the voices of the Lost Isle calling,
In Eressea, in Elvenhome that no man can discover,
Where the leaves fall not: land of my people for ever!
Goldie and the Three Cats copyright 2013 by Vivian Cheung
This painting was done especially for the third annual Fresh Works show at the Harrington Gallery in Pleasanton. Goldilocks is taking a nap with her three cats but did she really meet the three bears? Maybe it was all a dream. This painting will be displayed and will be up for sale from April 24th to May 25th.
